Djokovic In Form
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic looks to build on his recent Monte-Carlo success by winning the Madrid title for the season time. The Serb triumphed over Rafael Nadal in the 2011 final.
Federer Returns To Defend Title
World No. 2 Roger Federer returns to action as the defending champion in Madrid. The Swiss has not played since Indian Wells in March and returns bidding for his first trophy of the season. Last year, Federer won the Madrid title for the third time with victory over Tomas Berdych in the final.
Nadal Home Favourite
World No. 5 Rafael Nadal is looking to win the Madrid crown for the third time, after victories in 2005 (d. Ljubicic) and 2010 (d. Federer). He is coming off his 54th title in Barcelona.
Looking To Break Through
World No. 3 Andy Murray is bidding to win his first ATP World Tour clay-court title. The Scot has won nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies, most recently in Miami.
